Make editing HD videos faster?

I have recently purchased a Canon Vixia HF200, and I plan to edit the video I film with it a lot. I currently have Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 to edit, but editing the MTS files is SO slow. I downloaded the trial of some other editing programs but the process of editing the HD video is still slow. How do I make it faster? Thanks.
