Does Religion evolve?

2000 years ago it would have been heresy to deny the existence of Zues, Athena, Rha, etc. etc. Today, people look at these religions as archaic, myth, and good read for English cl. In 2000 years, as religion continues to evolve (change), what will the new god(s) be like? Will Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and other religions PROBABLY evolve? Will these changes be for the better or worse?
